Yousra Attends the Closing Ceremony of the Global Migration Film Festival as Guest of Honor

Egyptian Actress Yousra, Goodwill Ambassador for the Middle East and North Africa, was a guest of honor at the closing ceremony of the 3rd Global Migration Film Festival (GMFF) (November 28 to December 18), organized by the UN Migration Agency and sponsored by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry. The festival concluded its events yesterday at the Mohammed Ali Palace in Cairo.

Yousra assured that she is proud to support such a great initiative that highlights cinema's role in regards to storytelling and giving the audience a glimpse of the lives and circumstances of others by screening more than 420 films in more than 100 countries around the world to raise awareness about migration and empathy for migrants.

Egypt hosted the third edition of the Global Migration Film Festival (GMFF) entitled "The Promise and Challenge of Migration, and the Positive Contributions Migrants Make to Their New Communities". The films were designed to pave the way for a wider debate on migration among the public. The films discussed important topics concerning migration, such as labor migration, border management and the cross-border movement of children.

The GMFF was launched in 2016 by the United Nations Migration Agency, with a large number of countries participating with their feature films and documentaries, aiming to advocate for the cause of migration.

Since she started her acting career in the 1970s, superstar Yousra played remarkable roles in some of the most important films in the history of Egyptian cinema. Yousra worked with many celebrated directors and three of her films were listed among the 100 best Egyptian films.

For her exceptional performances, Yousra received more than 80 awards along with many certificates of appreciation and honors from international festivals, including the Cairo International Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival, Institut du Monde Arabe (Arab World Institute) in Paris, and the Royal College of Physicians in London. Moreover, she was selected as a jury member at many film festivals, including the Cairo International Film Festival, Marrakech International Film Festival, and the Abu Dhabi International Environmental Film Festival.

Besides her acting career, Yousra is also a singer who has several songs under her belt, including 3 Daqat that was released during the opening ceremony of the 1st El Gouna Film Festival. For being a fashion icon, Yousra was selected to be a jury member in the final season of Project Runway Middle East.

Known for her humanitarian work, especially marginalized groups and women, in the Arab world, she was chosen to be a goodwill ambassador by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
