Winner of Five Awards from International Film Festivals
The Guest: Aleppo-Istanbul Takes Part in the Malmo Arab Film Festival in Sweden
Starring Jordanian actress Saba Mubarak, The Guest: Aleppo-Istanbul film by Turkish director Anda√ß Haznederoğlu is going to take part in the 8th Malm√∂ Arab Film Festival in Sweden (October 5-9). The film will be screened on Saturday, October 6 at 04:30 PM, Sweden Time (GMT +1).
This takes place a few days after the film's great success in Jordanian theaters. Released on September 20, the film screening attracted a massive audience. The film is set to release in more Arab countries soon.
The Malm√∂ Arab Film Festival is dedicated to screening films from across the Arab world for the different communities living in Sweden that are about 175 different nationalities. The festival sees thousands of cinema-goers from Malm√∂ and the region as well as famous actors, directors, producers and film professionals attend the festival in Malm√∂ to enjoy the year's greatest films from the Arab world.
The Guest: Aleppo-Istanbul follows the journey of Lena and Meryem during their escape from the war in Syria. Lena is a ten-year-old girl who has lost her family in the war. She finds herself forced to make her way to Turkey with her baby sister and their neighbor Meryem, along with the other refugees. Lena
wants to return home, while Meryem's hope is reach Europe.
Written and directed by Turkish director Anda√ß Haznederoğlu, The Guest: Aleppo-Istanbul stars Saba Mubarak and child Rawan Skeif, alongside a number of real Syrian refugees who are acting for the first time. The film is a co-production between the Turkish companies; Anda√ß Film Productions, Istanbul Digital (ID) and Istanbul Film Production (IFP); and the Jordanian company Pan East Media. The film project received financial support from the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism. MAD Solutions is handling the film's distribution in the Arab world.
Recently, The Guest: Aleppo-Istanbul closed the 8th Arab Film Festival-Amman. The film also took part in the Arab Film Festival in Korea and the Manarat Mediterranean Film Festival in Tunisia. The Guest: Aleppo-Istanbul won the Audience Award at the Antalya Film Festival in Turkey, where it made its world premiere, the Best Feature and Best Actress awards at the Silk Road International Film Festival (SRIFF) in Ireland, as well as the Best Feature Film and Best Editing awards in the National Feature Films Competition of the International Bosphorus Film Festival. The film was screened at the European Film Market (EFM), held as part of the Berlin International Film Festival, the Arab Women Film Festival in Sweden and the LET'S CEE Film Festival in Vienna.
