The Good Girls Wins Grand Prix for Best Film at the Fribourg International Film Festival


Mexican director Alejandra Márquez Abella's feature film The Good Girls won the Grand Prix for Best Film at the 33rd Fribourg International Film Festival, marking its fifth international award after screening at many international film festivals. The Good Girls is distributed by MAD Solutions in the Arab world.

The Fribourg International Film Festival (FIFF) is an annual film festival held in Switzerland. Through its different sections, the Festival focuses on selecting films from Asia, Africa and Latin America. It aims to promote the understanding between cultures through films.

The always charming, perfect and spoiled Sofia, the queen bee of her group of friends, faces the unimaginable social decay. It's 1982 and a big economic crisis is hitting Mexico. Sofia will have to maintain appearances but her fall is not only inevitable, it will also acknowledge what is lost when money is gone.

The Good Girls won four awards, including the awards for Best Latin American Film, Best Screenplay and Best Editing at the Málaga Film Festival, Audience Award at the Macao International Film Festival. The film was selected at many prestigious international film festivals, including the Toronto International Film Festival, Thessaloniki International Film Festival in Greece, Roma International Film Festival, Chicago International Film Festival, Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia, Marrakech International Film Festival, and the Hong-Kong Film Festival.

Directed by Alejandra Márquez Abella,who co-wrote the screenplay with Monika Revilla, The Good Girls stars Ilse Salas, Cassandra Cinagherotti, Paulina Gaitán, and Flavio Medina. MAD Solutions distributes the film in the Arab world.

Born in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, and raised in Mexico City,Director Alejandra Márquez Abella studied filmmaking at Centre d'Estudis Cinematographics de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain. Her short film,
5 Memories, was selected at over 140 festivals around the world. Semana Santa (2015), her first feature, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and toured many festivals, such as SXSW and Karlovy Vary. The Good Girls (Las Niñas Bien) is her second feature.
