The Cairo 48 Hour Film Project Competition Launches in Cairo for the Third Year in a Row

For the third year in a row, the 48-Hour Film Project (48 HFP), the oldest and most popular timed film competition in the world, launches in Cairo on Thursday, 11th September 2014. Hosted by Darb 1718 Center Contemporary Art and Culture Center, in collaboration with MAD Solutions, the 48 HFP has opened the call for registration on Tuesday, July 22nd, 2014, and will close on Wednesday, September 10th, 2014.

Hosting the event for the second year in a row, Cairo competes for the 3rd year as one of four
Mid-East cities hosted the 48-Hour Film Project, in addition to Dubai, Amman, and Beirut in this international event which serves as a annual film hub for filmmakers and auteurs from across the world. Last year, the event witnessed a heated competition between 12 teams who were able to complete their films within 48 hours within the frame of the set rules and regulations.

The winner of Cairo will compete for "Best Film in the world" against the winners of 131cities worldwide at our annual "Filmmapalooza" event. The 15 best films of "Filmmapalooza" will also be featured at the Cannes 2015 short-film corner.

Concept: Teams of local filmmakers have only 48 hours to collaborate and make a film. They race against the clock - and each other to write, direct, shoot, and edit-all in just 48 hours.

The competition takes place on Thursday, September 11th, 2014, where teams will all get a character, a prop, a line of dialogue and a genre, all to be included in their films. The films must be handed over after 48 hours, i.e. on Saturday, September 13th, 2014, at 07:00 pm. The results will be announced on the event's official page as well.

Registration is open to anyone in Egypt, with no age, nationality, format or experience restriction until September 10th, 2014, through the following link: www.48hourfilmproject.com/cairo. Registration per team is 650 EGP.

Late films will be accepted and screened, but not nominated for "Best Film". Each completed film is guaranteed a screening Darb 1718 Center Contemporary Art and Culture Center where prizes and awards will follow, along with the announcement of the "Best 48-hour film" of Cairo.

Screening 16 shorts from across the world at Darb1718, the 48-Hour Film Project last year has also screened films which previously won in other 48-Hour filmmaking competitions in Paris, Shanghai, Johannesburg, Las Vegas, Warsaw, Berlin and other several countries.
