Ten Films Distributed by MAD Solutions Take Part in Mostra de Valencia


MAD Solutions will participate with ten films in the 34th Mostra de València in Spain. Fatwa and Between Two Seas will participate in the Official Competition, The Healer in the Informative Section, while Harag W' Marag (Chaos, Disorder), A Day for Women, Villa 69, Coming Forth By Day will take part in The Women Revolution in Egyptian Cinema. The short films, Ayny, Five Boys and A Wheel and BONBONE will screen withinthe Short Film Program Filmlab Palestine.

Mostra de València-Cinema del Mediterrani is a gathering for both experts and cinephiles to enjoy a specially selected programme with the aim of showing high quality titles that are not usually found in commercial circuits. It's also specific to a geographic and cultural space as a way of defining the Mediterranean basin and its cultural diverse.

About Fatwa:
The film tells the story of Brahim, a Tunisian guy living in France, who decides to go back to Tunisia to attend his son's funeral who passed away in a motorcycle accident. He then discovers that Marouane, his son, was militating with a radical Islamist group, so Brahim decides to identify the people who brainwashed his son until. The investigation leads him to doubt the circumstances surrounding his son's death.
Written and directed by Mahmoud Ben Mahmoud, Fatwa stars Ahmed Hafiane, Ghalia Benali, and Sarra Hannachi. The film is produced by Arts Distribution (Tunisia) and Les Films du Fleuve (Belgium), and MAD Solutions distributes the film in the Arab world.


About Between Two Seas:
Between Two Seas won six awards so far. While on a short visit to her home village, a small rural island near Cairo, Zahra's daughter is exposed to a tragic accident. Following this incident, Zahra persists on getting her daughter's right and insists on not only continuing her education but also benefiting her community. The film sheds light on different societal issues faced by women, especially in rural areas.

Directed by Anas Tolba and written by Mariam Naoum, based on a script by Amany El Tounsy and Karim El Dalil, the film stars Fatma Adel, Yara Goubran, Tharaa Goubail, Mahmoud Fares, Arfa Abdel Rassoul, and Lobna Wanas. The film is produced by Axeer , and executive produced by Abdelrahman Al Garwani in collaboration with the National Council for Women and UN Women. MAD Solutions handles the film's marketing and distribution in the Arab world.

About The Healer:

On the outskirts of Khouribga, a mining town exploiting phosphates, a 16-year old teenager, Abdou, helpful and caring, simple and down to earth, incapable of harm, is anxious to regain the gift of human dignity through learning how to read and write. His adoptive mother Mbarka, a midwife, the neighborhood's healer, protects her privileged status with ways that the laws of obscurantism allow her. Ch'aayba, a thirty-year old guy, uncontrollable and ferociously cynical, is an eccentric pickpocket. Suffering from a skin disease, Abdou convinces him to come see Mbarka in order to get treatment for it: that's how the fate of these three will entangle, twirling on the carrousel of illusion.

Directed by Mohamed Zineddaine and written by Olivier Bombarda, the film stars Ahmed Moustafid, Fatima Atif, and Mehdi Laarroubi. MAD Solutions handles the film's distribution in the Arab world.

About Harag W' Marag:
Produced and edited by Dina Farouk, Harag W' Marag (Chaos, Disorder) is Nadine Khan's feature film directorial debut. Khan penned the story herself, while the screenplay is written by Mohamed Nasser. The film stars Ayten Amer, Mohamed Farag, Ramsi Lehner, Hani El Metennawy, Osama Attia, veteran actor Sabry Abdel Menem and Sayed Ragab. Harag W' Marag is produced by WIKA Production & Distribution and is distributed worldwide by MAD Solutions.
Harag W' Marag is a social drama that tells the story of lost love in a controversial setting; Zaki (Farrag), Mounir (Lehner) and Manal (Ayten Amer) are in their twenties, and living in a confined community where basic needs are met yet chaos and disorder brew. The two boys are in love with the same girl who finds herself the subject of a bet for a football match between them, the winner marries Manal. This story reflects a football and play-station youth and how they deal with their emotions in a community that is increasingly closed off and isolated.

About A Day for Women:

A Day for Women takes place in a shabby neighborhood in Egypt where a youth center decides to allocate one day on the swimming pool for women only. The film follows the consequences of this decision on the social, psychological and emotional life of the women living in that neighborhood.

A Day for Women brings together a cast and crew of outstanding women, as it is produced by Elham Shahin through her company Shahin Film, who also stars in the film, directed by Kamla Abouzekri, written by Hanaa Atiyah, DOP Nancy Abdel Fattah, and Costume Designer Inas Shahin. The film stars Nelly Karim, Nahed El Sebai, Hala Sedqi, Ragaa Hussein, Shaimaa Seif, along with Mahmoud Hemida, Farouk Al Fishawy, Ahmad Al Fishawy, Eyad Nassar and Ahmed Dawood. MAD Solutions handles the film's marketing and promotion in the Arab world.


About Villa 69:
Villa 69 follows Hussein, a man living in isolation in his house. Characters from his past begin to invade his solitary lifestyle; his life witnesses drastic changes following the encounter with his sister and nephew, Seif. As a result, gradual and yet radical changes in his dogmatic view of life begin to emerge.
Directed by Ayten Amin and co-written by Mohamed Al Hajj and Mahmoud Ezzat, Villa 69 is produced by Film Clinic and Wael Omar's Middle West Films. The film stars Khaled Abol Naga, Arwa Gouda and veteran actress Lebleba.
Villa 69 won the Special Jury Award for a Film from the Arab World at the 7th Abu Dhabi Film Festival, within its New Horizons Competition, where it made its world premiere.

About Coming Forth By Day:
Written and directed by Hala Lotfy, Coming Forth by Day tells the story of a poor family living in a shabby neighborhood on the outskirts of Cairo. The pillar of the family, a single 30-year-old woman (Donia Maher), finds it difficult to express her feelings and dreams, while she spends her time only taking care of her wheelchair-bound father (Ahmed Lotfy) and mother (Salma Al-Naggar) who works as a nurse. MAD Solutions handles the film's distribution across the Arab world.

About Ayny:
Based on true events, Ayny follows two young boys who run away from their mother's protection and slack line on the danger of war to play music with the instrument they always dreamt to own.

About Five Boys and A Wheel:
Starring Ali Suliman, Nadira Omran and Haydar Kfoof, Five Boys and A Wheel is based on American author Raymond Carver's short story 'Bicycles, Muscles, Cigarettes'. The film is set in Jordan, where a young father has to help his son out of a petty conflict with the neighbors. As the parents of each respective family are summoned to discuss the issue at hand, the discussions begin to quickly spin out of control, putting the values of the father to test. Five Boys and A Wheel is directed by Said Zagha.

The film won the Golden Wahr award at the Oran International Arabic Film Festival in Algeria and the Silver Palm award at the Mexico International Film Festival. The film made its world premiere at the Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF). MAD Solutions distributes the film across the Arab world.

About BONBONÉ:
In less than 16 minutes, BONBONÉ follows a Palestinian inmate serving time in an Israeli jail receives a visit from his wife who devises a bold and crafty operation to fulfill their secret desires.
BONBONÉ world premiered at the 42nd Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), where it competed in the Short Cuts section. Written and directed by Rakan Mayasi, BONBONÉ stars SalehBakri, Rana Alamuddin and features Nadira Omran and Ziad Bakri. BONBONÉ is produced by Groundglass235 in co-production with The Postoffice and Mad4Films, and in association with db Studios. MAD Solutions is responsible for the film's distribution across the Arab world and Salaud Morisset is responsible for the international sales.
