Tamer Mohsen Helms a New Drama Inspired by Nobel Laureate Naguib Mahfouz Works

Director/writer Tamer Mohsen will be at the helm of a new TV drama inspired by five literary works by Nobel Laureate Naguib Mahfouz. Revealed under the title, Cairo, the new project is written by Mariam Naoum and produced by iProductions. The TV series will premiere in 2022.

The new serial drama will have multiple seasons, eight episodes per season. Each season will inspire its incidents from one of five renowned novels by the great Naguib Mahfouz whose oeuvre inspired more than 140 award-winning Arab and international works varying between short films, feature films, plays, and TV dramas.

This year has witnessed the release of Nemra Etnein, a new TV drama starring a pan-Arab cast, including a story by director Tamer Mohsen titled "Eli Beyseer be Beirut..Beydal Be Beirut", starring Nelly Kareem and Adel Karam. Currently, Mohsen is directing Taqato' Toroq (working title), a new drama that is slated to premiere in Ramadan 2021, marking a comeback by Mona Zaki after a five-year hiatus from Ramadan dramas.

Director Tamer Mohsen made his directorial debut in the TV drama Bedoon Zikr Asmaa, by the salient writer Waheed Hamed, which was premiered to a great success in Ramadan 2013. In Ramadan 2015, he directed Taht Al Saytara, starring Nelly Kareem and Dhafer L'Abidine, in a thrilling drama that explores the hidden world of drug addicts in Egypt and how addiction can drastically destroy people's lives, which generated massive acclaim from audiences and critics alike. In Ramadan 2017, Mohsen wrote and directed Haza Al Masaa, another successful drama that highlighted the darker face of modern technology when it's abused. The TV hit won him multiple Best Director and Best Screenplay and Best TV Series awards at the Cinema Syndicate Awards in 2017.
