Producer Amina Dasmal's The Double Participates at Sundance Film Festival

Emirati Producer Amina Dasmal's The Double competes at Sundance Film Festival within the frame work of Spotlight section, which aims to honor the best film achievements from across the world. Running from January 16th to January 26th, 2014, the festival is considered America's most prestigious film event targeting independent films.

The Double's director Richard Ayoade along with the film's star Jesse Eisenberg was present in the film's screenings as part of the festival that showcases American independent films produced outside Hollywood.

The film screens five times at the festival; twice on Friday, January 17th, 2014, then three times on January 18th, 21st, and 25th, 2014.

Commenting on this, Producer Amina Dasmal said "it is a great honor for us to have our film screening at Sundance Film Festival, one of the most prominent festivals in the world. This participation is regarded as a certificate of appreciation for director Richard Ayoade on his acclaimed film."

The Double won the Best Actor Award for Jesse Eisenberg within the New Horizons Competition at the 7th Abu Dhabi Film Festival.

Co-founded by Emirati Producer Amina Dasmal and British Producer Robin Fox, The Double is the latest film production by ALCOVE Entertainment. The film stars Jesse Eisenberg and Mia Wasikowska, and is directed by Richard Ayoade.

Magnolia Pictures has announced its acquisition of US distribution rights of The Double following its successful world premiere at Toronto International Film Festival and its screening at the 57th BFI London Film Festival.

The Double competed at Abu Dhabi Film Festival following its world premiere at Toronto International Film Festival where it was part of its Special Selections. The film was also part of the Official Competition at Tokyo International Film Festival and BFI London Film Festival.

Adapted from Fyodor Dostoevsky's celebrated novella of the same name, by writer Avi Korine and Richard Ayoade, the film tells the story of Simon, an undervalued man driven to near breakdown by the appearance of his confident and ambitious doppelganger who gets a job at the same company.
The Double is Ayoade's second feature film, and marks an unexpected twist in the oeuvre for the actor/director who is best known for TV comedies in the UK such as The Mighty Boosh and The IT Crowd. Ayoade describes The Double as a film highlighting the concepts of solitude and human need to love and be loved.

The film is a Film4 and BFI presentation of an Alcove Entertainment production in association with Protagonist Pictures, with executive producers Michael Caine (MC Pictures), Tessa Ross (Film4), Graeme Cox (Attercop) and Nigel Williams. Studio Canal is handling the film's theatrical release in the UK. On the other hand, Front Row Entertainment company has acquired distribution rights in the Middle East.
