Omar El Zohairy's The Aftermath of the Inauguration of the Public Toilet at Kilometer 375 Participates in Cannes Film Festival

Marking the first Egyptian film to compete in Cinéfondation competition, Omar El Zohairy's short fiction The Aftermath of the Inauguration of the Public Toilet at Kilometer 375 takes part in the 67th Cannes Film Festival which runs from May 14th to 25th, 2014. The film will premiere within The 2014 Cinéfondation competition which includes films submitted by students of film schools from across the world.

The film screenings in the festival will be attended by the film's director, Omar El Zohairy. Representing High Cinema Institute and Academy of Arts, this short fiction is the first Egyptian film ever to be an official selection for this competition.

The Aftermath of the Inauguration of the Public Toilet at Kilometer 375 is written by Sherif Naguib and directed by Omar El Zohairy. MAD Solutions serves as the film's marketing consultant.

The 18-minute plot is about fear, and the reasons behind having such feeling or not. Commenting on this El Zohairy says, "He always struggles to overcome this constant state of fear which controls him; all forms of fear: fear of the unknown, fear of the future and the past, fear of materialism, and fear of emotions. Fear is that feeling which surmounts you like a tornado, destroying all other things in its way. This is why I attempted to make a film about this feeling, devoid as much as possible of any other. Fear is the only theme of this film."

Born in Cairo in 1988, Omar El Zohairy studied film directing at the High Institute of Cinema in Cairo. During his studies, he worked as an assistant for several Egyptian directors including Yosry Nasrallah and Ahmad Abdalla. His short feature debut is Zafir (Breathe Out) which premiered at the 8th Dubai Film Festival and won the Jury Special Mention Prize at Muhr Arab Short Competition. Zafir competed at 34th Montpellier Mediterranean Film Festival - Cinemed.
