A Moroccan Man Embarks on a Journey across the Atlantic

MAD Solutions Releases Atlantic in Zawya Cinemas for One Week Only

MAD Solutions will be releasing Dutch director Jan-Willem van Ewijk's film Atlantic at Zawya theatre at Odeon cinemas, Downtown, on Wednesday November 18th for one week only. The sea adventure film revolves around a Moroccan fisherman who sets off on an epic journey towards Europe on his wind surfboard. The film was co-produced by 4 countries: Holand, Belgium, Germany, and Morocco.

Director Jan-Willem vanEwijk stated "I am very excited and honored that Fettah's adventurous journey will take him all the way from Morocco to Egypt. I sincerely hope Egyptian audiences will connect with our universal story of the pursuit of dreams and freedom".

Atlantic stars Moroccan actor Fettah Lamara, alongside Thekla Reuten, Mohamed Majd, and Jan-Willem van Ewijk. The 94-minute film depicts the journey of a Moroccan fisherman, Fettah, who decides to travel to Holland to visit a Dutch girl he met during her stay in Morocco and due to his love of surfboarding and fishing, he sets off on a journey from his small coastal village overlooking the Atlantic ocean in a small boat struggling against the sea and its strong waves.

Atlantic previously took part in several international film festivals, including the Toronto International Film Festival and the Marrakech International Film Festival. Before the film even saw the light, it was awarded two development grants by the Netherlands Film Festival and FILMMORE.

Director Jan-Willem van Ewijk was born in Holland and raised in California. He studied aviation and worked at several airlines in France, America, and Canada, before working as a business consultant and investment banker in London. As he turned 33, Ewijk decided to quit his job and pursue his passion for filmmaking, write a script, buy a camera, and cast his friends, colleagues and family in his first feature film Nu, which budgeted 20 thousand dollars and won the Best Debut Film award at the Netherlands Film Festival, the Best Feature Film award at the European Independent Film Festival, and took part in the MontrÊal World Film Festival and the Seattle International Film Festival. Variety magazine also described the film as a "little gem".
