The First Film by Tharwa Productions with a Team of Professionals from across the World
MAD Solutions Handles The Distribution of Sandfish
MAD Solutions has revealed plans to handle the distribution of the new feature Sandfish, the first production project by Paul Baboudjian's new Dubai-based Tharwa Productions. Encompassing a team of film professionals from across the world, the film is produced by Baboudjian in collaboration with Alessandra Priante, in her capacity as the Creative Producer of the film. Based on Maha Gargash's novel, The Sand Fish, the film's screenplay is written by Palestinian filmmaker Annemarie Jacir and will be directed by Saudi director/actress Ahd.
Abdallah Al Shami, MAD Solutions' Managing Partner for its GCC Bureau, commented, "MAD's strategy is to try and work with a Pan-Arab mindset with less focus on the country of origin. We also strive to open new channels of distribution for different genres in the film market. For this reason, we are thrilled to collaborate with Tharwa as it shares the same vision and believes in the power of telling stories from and of the Arab world."
Commenting on the film's crew of different nationalities from around the word, producers Baboudjian and Priante stated, "We are overwhelmed and incredibly happy to collaborate with an A-list team of international film professionals. It is vital to find people that believe in you and in the project as much as we believe in it and we feel so blessed to have with us such a great talent and artist as Ahd is."
Saudi director Ahd Kamel also expressed her happiness with the film and said, "I'm very honored and blessed to collaborate with such great producers who feel very devoted to what they believe in and put so much faith in me to help make their dream come true.
Sandfish is a unique and special story and I am so excited to share it with the world soon."
Sandfish is a coming of age story set in the mountains of the UAE in the 50s/60s. A young independent beautiful young girl, orphan of both parents, is being sold by her brother - the only remaining member of her close family - to an old pearl merchant, a rich man from the "city" who already has two wives, none of whom was able to give him a child. In this journey towards her new life, she discovers love, lust, hate, sorority, betrayal, manipulation, respect, maternity and growth. She will never be the same again.
Sandfish was one of the finalists for IWC Filmmakers Award that was part of the 11th edition of Dubai International Film Festival.
