Reviving the Story behind a Film Shot by Members of the Royal Court Weeks before the Coup d'état in 1952

In Search of Oil and Sand Part of Arabian Film Days Festival in Norway

After the film's festival participations during March, In Search of Oil and Sand continues its successful run in film festivals. The Egyptian documentary will be screened at Arabian Film Days Festival in Oslo, Norway which will be running from 19th April to 21st April.

The film tracks the historian Mahmoud Sabit who inherited a palace that dates back to the royal family, as he unveils the story behind 'Oil and Sand', an 8 mm film shot by his parents and members of the royal court only a few weeks before the royal Egyptian family was overthrown in a coup d'état in 1952. Sabit assembles the last surviving copy of the film, reconstructing the story behind it, members of the royal family who appeared there, and the political circumstances surrounding the film.

Sabit will be traveling to the Norwegian capital Oslo to attend the festival where he will participate in a discussion panel with Norway's most important Middle East historian.

In Search of Oil and Sand is produced by Middle West Films and co-directed by Wael Omar andPhilippe L. Dib. In October, 2012, In Search of Oil and Sand won the Best Arab Director award in the Documentary Competition at the 6th Abu Dhabi Film Festival.

In March, the film took part in the Cinema Africa Film Festival in Sweden, the Twin Cities Arab Festival in the U.S state of Minnesota, and International Festival of Mediterranean Film Tetouan in Morocco.
