Hosting a Special Exhibition and a Documentary and Book Release on His Life

CIFF Commemorates the Birth Centennial of Henry Barakat


The 36th of Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF), November (9-18), pays tribute to the prolific director Henry Barakat. In celebration of Barakat's 100th birth anniversary (1914-2014), the festival hosts an exhibition featuring photographs and portraits of the late director and his most remarkable works.

Renowned critic/ director/ researcher Hisham El Nahas, author of the first book about the well-established director Barakat, will inaugurate the festival's honorary exhibition with the attendance of Barakat's daughters in a star-studded event. The exhibition will open on Sunday, November 9 (the 1st day of the festival) at 10:30 am.

Held under the patronage of Egyptian National Cinema Centre, the exhibition will feature the screening of a 30-minute documentary highlighting the life of the late director. The documentary and the exhibition have been arranged by by film critic SafaaEl Lithy.

It is slated that the exhibition will also witness the release of the festival's book about Barakat, written by film critic Magdy Al-Tayeb.
